A "Faces of CF" Spotlight

Today, we’re celebrating someone incredibly special — Mitchell, who turns 7 years old this month! From the moment he came into the world, Mitchell has shown strength, resilience, and a joyful spirit that inspires everyone who knows him. We are so honored to kick off our June Faces of CF Sunday Spotlight series with him, especially on his birthday!

Mitchell was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at just three weeks old after a newborn screening. With no known family history, the diagnosis came as a complete surprise to his family. But what could have been only a devastating moment became, in many ways, a doorway to strength, community, and love. His family made a conscious decision early on to focus not on what CF takes away — but what it brings. Through every challenge, the joy, support, and connection they’ve found has been profound.

Mitchell has two copies of the delta F508 gene and has had to experience a few hospital stays, spending two weeks admitted when he was just five. Even in those difficult moments, he was a trooper — smiling, cooperating with care, and finding joy where he could. Shortly after that stay, he began taking Trikafta, a breakthrough CF medication, and his family has been grateful for the hope it brings.

Over the years, we’ve watched Mitchell grow into a bright, kind-hearted, animal-loving little boy. He’s passionate about building things, fishing with his dad, and is the best big brother. His laughter is contagious, and his love for animals — especially his puppies — is unmatched.

We first introduced Mitchell to our Blue Caboose family in our 2021 calendar, and we’ve loved watching him grow each year since. With each spotlight, his story has grown — from a toddler starting Orkambi, to a determined little guy thriving on Trikafta. Now at seven years old, Mitchell is full of excitement for school, playtime, and all the adventures that lie ahead.

We’re honored to walk alongside Mitchell and his family on this journey. His courage and joy remind us why we do what we do. Today, we’re not just spotlighting a CF warrior — we’re celebrating a birthday boy. 🎉
